At 5 pm, during the show, you'll hear "The Grapevine," when Kathy interviews someone from WCU or the local community. You can learn more about services for students and student organizations. You can also hear about volunteer opportunities and events taking place in the West Chester area. So, listen in, and get informed. |

March 1 – Contemporary Issues – Today Steve and Scott joined us from the Contemporary Issues Organization here at WCU. Steve is the advisor to the group, and Scott is a student, and President of Contemporary Issues. Scott told us this group brings movies and ideas for programs to campus. The students, as well as faculty members, come to the meetings to offer their ideas. The Contemporary Issues groups collaborate with other student groups to bring speakers and programs to the campus. Steve said that one of the purposes of this group is to bring students and faculty together. Scott stated that this is empowering for the students, because it gives them a “voice” on campus. February 15 - Our guests today were Gerardina (Ger) and Miranda from the WCU Learning and Resource Center. Ger is the Interim Director, and Miranda is the Interim Assistant Director, as well as the Coordinator of SI (Supplemental Instruction) Program. Ger told us that the LARC provides tutoring and academic support services to help students become independent learners. That includes general tutoring for 100 and 200 level courses, as well as PRAXIS review sessions. PRAXIS are the tests that all education majors have to take in order to be certified in PA, and here at WCU they need to take it to be accepted into their major.

February 8 - Today we invited Dr. Taylor to join us to talk about Black History; not only because it's Black History Month, but because it's interesting, and educational. Dr. Taylor is a History Professor here at WCU, and if you don't recognize the name, it's because she recently married. You may know her as Dr. Thames-Leonard. |

February 1 - Compeer Chester County - Our guest today was Sherry, who is the Outreach Coordinator for Compeer of Chester County. Sherry has also been a Compeer volunteer for many years. So, what is “Compeer?” Compeer is not an acronym, but a word that means “close friend, comrade,” and when you volunteer for Compeer you can make a new friend, and help someone recover from mental illness.
Sherry told us that Compeer volunteers agree to give 4 hours a month of their time, |

January 25 – CHADD – This is Part two of our two part series on Attention Deficit Disorder, and the Eighth Annual CHADD Conference to be held January 27, 2007 at WCU. Today’s guests were Dr. Marty Patwell from the WCU Office of Students with Disabilities, and Kathy Adams-House. Kathy is a member of the Chester County CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) and a parent of an ADHD student.
Dr. Patwell told us the importance of documentation, which from a legal standpoint is required to support accommodations that may be required for an ADHD student. |
