Compeer Chester County

February 1 -  Compeer Chester County -  Our guest today was Sherry, who is the Outreach Coordinator for Compeer of Chester County. Sherry has also been a Compeer volunteer for many years. So, what is “Compeer?”  Compeer is not an acronym, but a word that means “close friend, comrade,” and when you volunteer for Compeer you can make a new friend, and help someone recover from mental illness.

Sherry told us that Compeer volunteers agree to give 4 hours a month of their time,

and are matched with an adult of the same gender who live in the same geographic area, and have the same interests.  If you don’t have 4 hours, you can help out by being an occasional volunteer caller.  As of today, there are 19 people waiting for a Compeer companion, and we hope you will look into how you can become a volunteer. You will have fun, and be doing something good for the community. Compeer Chester County is located in West Chester on Walnut Street.  Check out their website for more information and to download a volunteer application.  The website is www.CompeerChesco.org , and the phone number is 610-436-4445. As it states in the Compeer brochure,” Your friendship can make a difference.”
