Children of Bodom - Trashed, Lost & Strungout EP

Related Artists: Hypocrisy, Imperanon, In Flames

Children of Bodom have released a wonderful taste of something new with their “Trashed, Lost & Strungout EP”. The disc showcases two new tunes by the brutal Melodic Death Metal band out of Finland, as well as two interesting covers. The two new original tracks stay in the vein of Children of Bodom’s sound. Nothing very new or fancy, just straight up brutal Melodic Death Metal with harsh raspy vocals and nice atmospheric keyboard work. The cover songs, however, present an interesting and somewhat unexpected side of CoB. The first is a cover of Alice Cooper’s “Bed of Nails” which seems appropriate since Alice was the godfather of shock-rock. The cover is very good and ends on an especially high note with Alexi Laiho speeding up the vocal lines to double speed before the ending. A cover version of Andrew W.K.’s “She is Beautiful” graces the last slot on the album. This did not seem like an obviously choice to me. I didn’t even know Andrew W.K. had fans in Finland. But CoB once again pull off an amazing rendition which leaves you wanting more covers and definitely pondering what they may do on their next full length studio album.

Dirty Tracks: 1, 2

Recommended Tracks: 3- Bed of Nails, 4- She is Beautiful
