On Monday Dec. 14 Sykes will be hosting a Late Night Finals Breakfast. Breakfast will be served at 10pm in the Sykes Ballrooms.

On Wednesday, Dec. 16, join the University community at the annual tree lighting. The tree lighting will be held outdoors at Tanglewood, the home of University President Greg Weisenstein. The tradition is accompanied by music, caroling and light refreshments. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.

Starting Friday, December 11 through Sunday, December 20, The Brandywine Ballet will be performing The Nutcracker at West Chester University. All performances will be held at The Emilie K. On Friday, Dec. 18, and Saturday, Dec. 19. University Dance Company presents “E Pluribus Unum,” a collection of dances inspired by the translation of the U.S. motto: out of many, one. Come out to the event, “A Conversation with Juan González.” One of America’s most influential Hispanics, and Dr. Idna Corbett, West Chester’s Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Student Support Services will speak. The event will be held in the Philips Autograph Library.

 On Monday, Nov. 16, and Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. 

The film “Viet Nam, Burma: Retrospective Insights,” will be shown in the Sykes Student Union Theater. In the film, filmmaker Rick Ray visits two amazing countries as they were before and after Western contact changed their destinies.Tickets are $8.

Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Wednesday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m. “Danza Symbiotica: A Composer/Choreographer Project.” WCU student composers and choreographers collaborate to create a collection of new music/dance pieces performed by students. On Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 8:00p.m. Check out the WCU TV sponsored test audience screening of the film “Swooped” in the Sykes Union Theater. “Swooped” is a comedy that has already made the first round of the Sundance Film Festival. Wednesday, Nov. 11. The annual WCU Bear Fair has begun. Volunteers collect new teddy bears to give to hospitalized children during the holidays. On Nov. 11, help raise month to buy new teddy bears by dining at the Stadium Grill. ALL DAY – just mention the Bear Fair and a portion of the bill will go to the Bear Fair. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m. Maureen McVeigh and Shawn Proctor will read from their works of fiction at the WCU Poetry House, 823 S. High Street. Proctor was nominated for Best New American Voices and received the creative writing award for most outstanding thesis while at Rosemont College. His fiction has appeared in Schuylkill Valley Journal, Storyglossia and Mississippi Crow, among others, and was a finalist in the Delaware Beach Life Writing Contest. McVeigh teaches English at several colleges in the Philadelphia area, including West Chester. She completed the master of arts in English at West Chester and the MFA in Creative Writing at Rosemont College, where she helped create Parlor, the program’s literary journal. In addition, McVeigh helped facilitate Rosemont’s popular Reading Series, featuring students and faculty. Her work has appeared in Student World Traveler and Living Well magazines. 610-436-3235.

In a multi-media dance presentation entitled, Darfur, The Rebecca Davis Dance Company depicts the experience of an American citizen who witnessed the conflict in Darfur. The show is recommended for mature audiences and will be held in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre. All seats are $20.

The Anthropology Club is holding a Halloween Masquerade Party in the Sykes Ballrooms.
